Jay,

Ok, here’s the scoop on my dad:

Leon A. Dean served in the US Army from January 1943 - February 1946. Rank of T/5. (Tech Seargent) His ID# was 35582460. His unit identification was BTRYC,404FAMN, 86th Division. [These are comments I found on the 86th Division website (Battery C of the 404th Field Artillary Battalion; 86th Infantry Division; also referred to as the Blackhawk Division.) The Blackhawk Division involved in the Battle of the Rhine (at Koln Germany) and was instrumental in the largest surrender of German Troups (over 300,000) during WWII even though they were sent chasing the retreating German Army as the fled North from the region and did not witness the actual surrender. The Division further distinguished itself s it joined up with Patton's 3rd Army in what would be the final Battles in Europe in Hitler's chosen "Redoubt" at Berchtesgaden in Bavaria.]

Blessings, Wally and Jessica Walsworth
